Listed Below are the Best Menzies Creek - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do in the Dandenong Ranges Region, Victoria, Australia.
Menzies Creek is a small rural town in the Dandenong Ranges, about and 5 km east of Belgrave and 40 km. south-east of Melbourne. It is the second station from Belgrave on the narrow gauge 'Puffing Billy' scenic railway that runs to Gembrook. There is a railway museum near the `Puffing Billy` station, as well as a Tea Room and the Menzies Creek Store. The Menzies Creek township was named after an early miner in the area, James Menzies, who worked the Emerald diggings. Extensive gold mining activities occurred in the Menzies Creek area in the 1860s. This was followed by timber splitters and later farmers on the rich volcanic soils in the area. The hills around Menzies Creek were renowned for tree ferns and giant mountain ash trees.
