Monbulk is set in beautiful timbered hills and the area is noted for growing tulips, roses and other flowers, fruit and wine (both grape and fruit bases). The area is renowned as the site of historic Monbulk Preserving Company, a jam factory that produced the iconic Monbulk Jam from locally grown fruit. The factory is now owned by Cadbury Schweppes. Monbulk is an interesting rural township focused on growing nursery plants, fruit and cut-flower and bulbs. The town has a wide variety of sporting and leisure clubs. Monbulk has a thriving town centre with many cafes and restaurants, local wineries and arts, crafts and local produce outlets. The Monbulk Winery is open every weekends and on public holidays for tastings of its specialty - kiwi fruit wine as well as regular grape variety wines. The Five Oaks Vineyard also has a cellar door outlet. The Silvan Reservoir Park, located in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges has many wonderful walking trails through native forests and great spots for picnics and BBQs.
