Monkey Mia is renowned for the many wild bottlenose dolphins that visit and interact with the humans at the beach. They are part of a pod of around 300 wild dolphins that live in the bay. The dolphin information centre provides information on dolphin biology and behaviour patterns and provides general information about other attractions ands activities in the area. A visitor fee is charged for entry to Monkey Mia Reserve. There is a huge variety of animal and bird in the surrounding area. Monkey Mia has a wide range of accommodation with great facilities and caters for many recreational activities. The nearby town of Denham has outstanding fishing and excellent beaches. The sheltered waters of the bay provide for great swimming, canoeing kayaking, boating, waterskiing and lots of other recreational activities. Close to Monkey Mia is the beautiful Shell Beach, the renowned stromatolites in the pools of Hamelin Bay, the dugong breeding area and lookout of Eagle Bluff and all the attractions of Frangois Peron National Park and the Shark Bay World Heritage Area.
