Mount Augustus National Park in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia is located about 490 km east of Carnarvon, 390 km northwest of Meekatharra and 850 km north of Perth. Mount Augustus, itself rise about 1100 m above sea level, or about 860 m above the surrounding plain, and covers an area of about 50 square kilometres, with a central ridge which is almost 8 km long. The best views of the rock can be seen by taking the a 49 km long circuit of Burringurrah Drive, which can be accessed using conventional vehicles. There are many excellent lookouts along the track, including Emu Hill Lookout. There is a diverse range of fauna and flora in the area including emus, kangaroos, kookaburras and birds of prey. Camping is not permitted but you can stay at the Mount Augustus Outback Tourist Resort.
