- Where to Go, What to See and Do
Listed Below are the Mount Wellington - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.Mount Wellington rises about 1270 m above the Derwent River and the harbour at Hobart. It is often snow covered, and the lower slopes are thickly forested, with many walking tracks, fire trails and good rock climbing sites. There is also a sealed road to the summit, which has spectacular views of the city, the Derwent estuary, South Arm, Bruny Island and the Tasman Peninsula. Mount Wellington provides a wilderness experience in sub-alpine flora and temperate rainforest and glacial rock formations, close of the city that is much loved by locals and visitors. The interpretation centre at the summit provides lots of local information. Mountain activities include cycling and abseiling, bushwalking along trails that suit all fitness levels and there are barbecue and picnic facilities available. From Hobart, the most distinctive feature of Mount Wellington is the cliff of dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes.
