Mt Carbine Mt. Carbine was established in the 1890`s when wolframite (used to harden steel) was first discovered on the slopes of Carbine Hill. Mining continued until 1980. The town is now an historic mining village with several shops and a caravan park. The area is a magnificent haven for a variety of Australian Bustards, Brolgas, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Apostlebirds, Pied Butcherbirds, Tawny Frogmouth, bowerbirds, water birds and many other species. There are many attractions and activities for vistors in the surrounding townships on the Atherton Tablelands.
