The area features the Consuelo Tableland reaches more than 1000 metres above sea level forming an area is known as the `Roof of Queensland` and the `Home of the Rivers`, as its the source of several major rivers in Central Queensland - the Maranoa River, Comet and Dawson rivers. Rugged ranges descend to arrays of sandstone cliffs, with sandy valleys and open woodlands below. There are four basic campsites in the area with amazing Aboriginal rock art and rock formations - Marlong Arch, Lot's Wife, The Chimneys. The area is also popular for bird watching and has diverse fauna such as feathertail gliders and sugar gliders at night.
