Mount Morgan is an interesting and charming place, with wooden houses, a pub and a gold mining history reaching back to 1882. The mine finally closed in 1981, having yielded a fortune in of gold during its productive years, and there is a 300 m deep acid-water filled mining pit next to the town. Some of the major attractions in the area are: # Historic Rail Complex and Mt Morgan Visitors Centre- The magnificent Mount Morgan railway station (built in 1898) which is a beautiful timber building that now operates as the visitors centre and is the departure point for rail tours. Hop on board the steam train service for a journey back in time. # Gold Mine Tours - You can book for a tour of the old mine site at the visitors centre # Mt Morgan Historical Museum # Courthouse and other Historic Buildings # Suspension Bridges and Swing Bridge - Located on the Dee River, downstream from the mine road, are several unusual suspension (swing) bridges that were built in the 1890s.
