The Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park, located about 27 km northeast of Katherine and 300 km south of Darwin is owned by the Jawoyn Aboriginal people, who jointly manage it with the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory. The Katherine Gorge is located in the Katherine Region of Northern Territory south of Darwin. The magnificent Katherine Park features a spectacular array of dissected sandstone hills, wide valleys and many highly significant Aboriginal cultural sites. The deep gorge (Katherine Gorge) cut through the sandstone by the Katherine River is the main attraction of the Park. Nitmiluk Tours, an Indigenous touring company offers a wide variety of tours through the park. You can take a cruise, canoe, kayak, walk, plane flight or swim your way in the park. The Nitmiluk Gorge has a beautiful set of 13 separate gorges and a maze of waterways cut into the sandstone by the Katherine River. This is a magnificent place to visit with many wonderful attrcations and activities that will appeal to a wide range of visitor interests.
