Arnhem Land is one of the most exclusive and isolated wilderness regions in Australia. One of the main attrcations is the magnificent Gove Peninsula which has stunning long white sandy beaches, placid tropical waters, beautiful coastal scenery, bays and estuaries teeming with fish, abundant offshore reefs and islands for diving, diverse flora and fauna and a magnificent array traditional Aboriginal culture heritage centres, arts and crafts and paintings. There are many attrcations and activities in the region including Aboriginal cultural tours, native food, art and craft centres, guided walking trails, boating, diving, sailing and fantastic fishing. Permission to enter Arnhem Land must be obtained from the Northern Land Council. The main town and administrative centre of the Gove Peninsula is the township of Nhulunbuy. A number of resorts and tourism operators offer eco tours and cultural experiences and well as guided tours and fishing charter boats and adventures. There is a good range of accommodation available in the region.
