Oberon, located about 170 km west of Sydney, is the perfect base to explore the Blue Mountains. Oberon features a cool climate, high altitude (about 1,110 m above sea level), outstanding natural beauty and close proximity to the World Heritage listed Jenolan Caves, Kanangra Boyd National Park, Abercrombie River National Park and Blue Mountains National Park. Oberon is a very popular area for bushwalking, trout fishing and fossicking for sapphires. Oberon has a prodcutive rural community producing beef cattle, lambs and a wide range of vegetables. It is a friendly community and there is a range of community events throughout the year, including: # Oberon Show (February) # The Daffodil Festival (September) # The Oberon Community Art and Craft Exhibition (November). Oberon has excellent tourist facilities and fine restaurants, cafes, antique shops, craft centres and historic buildings. Lake Oberon is stocked with brown trout.
