Omeo is an historic town with an intriguing history linked with goldmining. Omeo is located about 400 km east of Melbourne and 100 km north of Bruthen. It is a service town for the local rural businesses focused on cattle, sheep, tourism and timber. The remains of the gold-mining history can be found a few kilometres west of Omeo at the Oriental Claims Historic Area. Fishing is very popular in the many creeks, rivers and waterways in the area. You can visit the alpine resorts of Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain are located less than 100 km drive west of Omeo.
