There is excellent fishing in the area and a good ramp for river access. Nearby are the charming seaside resort towns of Toogoom and Burrum Heads (20 km from the Bruce Highway) and which have become popular holiday and retirement destinations with excellent boating and wonderful beaches. Howard has many wonderful buildings of historical significance including a beautiful example of a tastefully restored Queenslander which offers guided tours and delicious Devonshire Teas. Howard`s small museum showcases the coal mining and farming history of the area and includes a fine collection of war memorabilia. Visit the delightful Country markets that are held in Steley Street, Howard, on the first Saturday of every month and there are many excellent swimming and fishing locations along the nearby Burrum River.
