The range is a favourite tourist spot that includes Castle Rock, a popular climbing destination, and the Devil`s Slide. The Porongurups are located about 30 km from the Stirling Range and 25 km from Mount Barker, featuring lush Karri forests and rich bird life. The twelve major peaks in the range are primarily composed of granite. Enjoy bushwalking along one of the many walking trails that are graded for length and walking abilities. The Porongurup is 1100 million years old and has diverse flora and fauna and has rugged scenery. There are more than 700 species of flowering plants and 78 species of birds plus a spectacular range of lichens and orchids. There are hand crafted wood and wrought iron products, other arts and crafts are available at various venues in the region. The area also has a wonderful array of wineries, vineyards in the area with more than 11 local wineries and the Porongurup Wine Festival is held in March every year. Another popular annual event is `Art in the Park` outdoor sculpture competition in the picnic area on Castle Rock Road in the national park.
