Listed Below are the Queenstown - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.
Queenstown is a large mining town in the North West Region of Tasmania. It is best known for its copper mines and smelters and stark landscapes. The surrounding hills have been stripped of timber to fire the smelters and have been permanently laid bare by the poisonous sulphurous fumes. Its river is also polluted. The entire area has the appearance of a deserted moonscape, strangely interesting despite the pollution. Queenstown features a living history of railways and mining in a lunar landscape of denuded hills with a resilient thriving community of artists and film-lovers. You can explore the natural beauty of the region on the delightful West Coast Wilderness Railway that travels through the rainforest to the port of Strahan. It is one of Australia`s great historic train journeys. You can also visit the Galley Museum and Miners Siding, and head underground into the mine on a tour that showcasing Queenstown`s rich mining history. There are many beautiful wilderness walks in nearby areas and many waterfalls, including Montezuma Falls, the highest in Tasmania. Other attractions include: # Douggies Underground Mine Tour # Eric Thomas Gallery Museum # Paragon Theatre # The Walkabout Queenstown - historic walk # Empire Hotel # Galley Museum # Gormanston # Linda a ghost town # Lake Margaret Power Station.
