Ravensthorpe is a small rural town lying 40 km inland from the coast in the Esperance Region of Western Australia located about 540 km south east of Perth, 210 km east of Albany and 185 km west of Esperance. Ravensthorpe started life as a gold and copper mining town but now the main focus sheep grazing, wheat farming and tourism. The area is famous for the natural beauty of its nearby Ravensthorpe Ranges, rugged river valleys, estuaries, rocky hills, and large inlets. The bushland areas in the district are very popular for wildflowers, bushwalking and camping and include National Parks, reserves and vacant crown land areas. The annual wildflower show is held during the first two weeks of September. Old mining relics are on display at the Dance Cottage Museum. Other attractions include fossicking for gems and minerals, fishing at nearby Hopetoun beaches. There are many wonderful places to stay including hotels, motels, a caravan park, backpacker accommodation, campgrounds and farm stay accommodation.
