Roper River - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Where to Go, What to See and Do
Listed Below are the Roper River - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.The Roper is a large river system draining a massive area of eastern and central Northern Territory. It is fed by waters draining from Elsey Creek in the vast Mataranka region and by Birdum Creek, which has a catchment area extending close to Daly Waters. The Roper River flows for about 260 km before eventually draining into the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Roper has a world-wide reputation for its Barramundi fishing and offers anglers both tidal river and billabong habitats. The best fishing occurs below Roper Bar, which is a crossing and weir of natural rock that separates the freshwater and saltwater sections of the river. However there is good fishing all along the river at particular times. Below Roper Bar, there is fantastic lure fishing, especially during the wet season run-off and in the dry season on live bait. At Roper Bar there is a caravan park and a store with general supplies including ice and fuel. The tidal section of the Roper river also offers anglers a range of other species: mud crabs, Barramundi, threadfin salmon and jewfish. The downstream sections of the Roper River are adjacent to the spectacular Limmen National Park which includes parts of the Limmen Bight, Hodgson, Towns, Cox and Nathan Rivers. You can take guided fishing tours and other adventures on the Roper. This is a great place for a holiday especially for anglers.
