There are many reminders in the region of the early days when the river was a major mode of transport with Paddle-steamers plying the river load grain, wool and other supplies to and from Adelaide to the inland ports. Now the restored paddle steamers offer delightful day trips and extended cruises and most of the river traffic is holiday houseboats, fishing boats and pleasure craft for water sports such as water skiing.
