Sandringham is a residential and tourist suburb on Port Phillip Bay, with tree-lined streets, centred around all the facilities and attractions of Picnic Point and the railway station. It lies about 16km south of Melbourne, between Beaumaris and Brighton. At Picnic Point there is a wide range of recreational facilities including a croquet green, a large reserve with an oval, a large boat harbour and many sporting clubrooms. The Sandringham Yacht Club with its extensive marina of yachts is located behind a long breakwater providing a sae harbour. The scenic beach leads onto a foreshore reserve that runs north to Brighton and south to Half Moon Bay. Close by is the Royal Melbourne Golf Course, which marks the start of Melbourne`s famous `sandbelt` golf courses. Picnic Point is also the start of the famous artists` trail that runs south along the coast through Beaumaris.
