It lies about 16km south of Melbourne, between Beaumaris and Brighton. At Picnic Point there is a wide range of recreational facilities including a croquet green, a large reserve with an oval, a large boat harbour and many sporting clubrooms. The Sandringham Yacht Club with its extensive marina of yachts is located behind a long breakwater providing a sae harbour. The scenic beach leads onto a foreshore reserve that runs north to Brighton and south to Half Moon Bay. Close by is the Royal Melbourne Golf Course, which marks the start of Melbourne`s famous `sandbelt` golf courses. Picnic Point is also the start of the famous artists` trail that runs south along the coast through Beaumaris.
