Listed Below are the Savage River - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.
Savage River is a mining town in the wilderness area of the West Coast of Tasmania in the North West Region, located about 270 km west from Launceston, 110 km south west from Burnie, and 150 km north west of Queenstown. There are many attractions close to Savage River including the Longback Range, Mt Stewart, the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area, the Tarkine Forest and the nearby town of Corinna. Deposits of iron ore were discovered in Savage River around 1870 and a huge open cut mine now discharges the ore through an 85 km long pipeline to Port Latta, where it is processed for export, mostly to Japan. There is accommodation at the Pieman Retreat Cabins.
