The Scamander area boasts some of the best beaches, boating, surfing and fishing locations in the Break O` Day region. The Scamander River entrance provides sheltered and shallow waters and beaches for children to play in. On the banks of the Scamander River is the Scamander Forest Reserve, which provides great facilities for many recreational activities. The fishing in the upper reaches of the river is exceptional targeting mullet, trout, bream, cocky salmon and trevally. The reserve is about 6 km upstream from Scamander, and the river is navigable by boat all the way to the reserve. There is a camping area in the reserve and a boat ramp and jetty for anglers. There are many accommodation options in and around Scamander, many on the beach and waterfront.
