The beach is patrolled in summer by the local Surf Lifesaving Club. Boating sailing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing are the most popular activities at Shoal Point, which is a perfect place to stop and explore the Mackay Area. Shoal Point provides calm swimming, great sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and jet-skiing. The local creeks have a wide range of angling species such as grunter, flathead, salmon, whiting, bream, and estuary cod. In season prawns, mud crabs and other crabs are plentiful.
