Shoalwater is a favourite holiday destination near Rockingham in the Perth Region of Western Australia, south of Perth. Shoalwater is very popular for boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, windsurfing, kite surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and crabbing. Penguin Island, which can be accessed by walking and wading for 700 m along the sand flat from Mersey Point is a very popular spot for exploring. This walk is a very popular local adventure at low tide. Penguin Island has some fascinating walking trails and coastal areas to explore and you can often see Fairy Penguins that hide in burrows along the shoreline and go to sea to fish. Regular ferry trips to Penguin Island and Seal Island leave from the Mersey Point Pier. Point Perron, located on the tip of Shoalwater Bay, has beautiful scenery, a network of spectacular walking trails and lovely secluded beaches. There are many places to stay on the waterfront at Shoalwater which is an excellent base for enjoying all the local attractions and activities.
