Sorell is one of the oldest towns in Tasmania and features three National Estate listed churches and many fruit farms where you can pick your own fruit. The three historic churches in the main street are: St George`s Anglican Church in Gordon Street (1826), Scot`s (1842) and St Thomas`s. Sorell Antiques has a wonderful collection of treasures from the past. At Sorell Fruit Farm, you can pick a wide range of berries and stone fruits in season, including raspberries, strawberries, tayberries, raspberries, loganberries, and silvanberries. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival is held September and October. Farming of prime lambs has taken over from wheat as the region`s major rural industry. Horse riding is a favourite local activity and the many local trails cater for all needs up to two-day treks. There is a wonderful array of old colonial buildings in Sorell including are the original police commissioner`s residence, the barracks and two old inns - The Bluebell and The Plough and Harrow.
