Australian National Maritime Museum

The Australian National Maritime Museum has thousands of exhibits depicting Australia`s history - from ancient times when Aboriginal people trapped fish and traded with Asian neighbours, right up to the present. On display is Australia II, winner of the 1983 America`s Cup; relics of Captain Cook`s Endeavour; the famous World War II commando boat Krait; a sleek racing cutter of 1888; a Vietnamese refugee boat and a pearling lugger from Broome.

The Maritime Centre, situated on the Honeysuckle Development at Lee Wharf, has opened it`s doors to the public. Come in and see our new interactive exhibits that showcase the growth and importance of Newcastle’s Maritime history. The Centre is now showcasing a unique and exciting display of boats, shipping models, photographs, tools, interactive features and much more. This exhibition tells of the importance of the maritime industry to Newcastle.

Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum

Significant items dealing with Gippsland`s maritime history are housed in the 1861 Bank of Victoria building and in the John Irving Archives in the adjacent former CBC bank office. Port Albert was the original Port of Entry for the Gippsland Gold Fields and the old bank vault houses a display on Gippsland Gold Discovery. A spectacular sound and light show in `Shipwreck Alley` features artefacts from one of the last wooden paddle steamers.

Port Welshpool and District Maritime Museum

The Port Welshpool and District Maritime Museum is based around a collection of marine items, maritime relics, official documents, photographs and many objects of historical interest. The building that houses the collection was the first permanent dwelling erected in the township. It was the home of the Smith family for the period of their fishing activities. In 1975 the home and contents were donated to be preserved as a permanent tourist attraction.

Aireys Inlet Split Point Lighthouse Tours

Our 45 minute tour includes lighthouse stories, local history and amazing 360-degree coastal views. It is the perfect adventure for `Round the Twist` fans, sightseers, keen photographers, budding historians, lighthouse lovers and families. Access is by tour only. The lighthouse is open daily for tours, weather permitting. Tours begin on the hour, 10am-4pm (Summer), 11am-2pm (Winter). The lighthouse is open 7 days a week.
