dance Listed Below are the best Australian Surfing Locations, Surf Guides and Maps, Webcams and Conditions, Surf Travel Guides. Surfing in Australia is very popular for both local residents, visitors and tourists. With more than 30,000 km of coastline, warm weather year round at many beaches, and great waves and locations there is a huge range of possibilities for all grades of surfers. Most beaches are relatively safe, being patrolled by Surf Life Saving Australia groups, but you need to be aware of the dangers, particularly in big swells on exposed open beaches. No matter what your level of surfing skill or the type of surfing that appeals to you, you are sure to find somewhere to surf nearby. There are basically three choices - east, south or west. There is no surfing in the north mainly because of the stingers (jellyfish), salt water crocodiles and the Great Barrier Reef that reduces the swell along the tropical coast of North Queensland. The east coast of Australia is home to world famous locations such as spots as Kirra, Crescent Head, Burleigh Heads. Virtually all of southern Queensland and New South Wales coastline have great surf swells particularly during the winter (May - Aug) and during the summer cyclone season. In the south the major surfing areas are along the Great Ocean Road around Torquay, and further south along the rugged Tasmanian coastline. Bells Beach, west of Melbourne is probably the most famous location, but the whole Victorian coastline gets plenty of swell. In the south west, the Margaret River region is world renowned and the surf around Perth is also very popular. Rottnest Island, about 16km off the coast, has fantastic reef breaks particularly at Strickland Bay.

Woonona Boardriders

Woonona Boardriders was established late in 1974 when some brainstorming was done by Barry (Wootown) Stace and Rob Allen. The boys were looking to put a contest team of 18 surfers together so decided to hold a meeting around a beer. When 34 people turned up Barry didn`t have the heart to turn then around, so the club was formed.
