St Georges Basin, Sanctuary Point, Erowal Bay, Paradise Beach, Sussex Inlet are favourite holiday destinations close to Nowra. St Georges Basin is a large tidal lagoon, with 10 km of fantastic waterways with a forested shore. The many villages around the lake, and Sussex Inlet at the mouth, provides many holiday attractions and facilities for a vast range of recreational activities. The waters of the basin are great for fishing, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, prawning, water-skiing, canoeing, snorkelling, kayaking and many more activities. The magnificent Jervis Bay is only a short drive away, and there is excellent surfing at the beaches along the nearby coast. Basin View on the north-western shore is good for prawning, fishing, waterskiing and sailing. The main centre of Sanctuary Point has hire boats including surf skis, rowboats, canoes, yachts, windsurfers, and fishing tinnies. The charming villages of Paradise Beach, Erowal Bay and Tomerong have excellent facilities. Water sports are very popular in the famous traditional holiday town of Sussex Inlet, with fishing and boating the most popular. An Annual Family Fishing Carnival is held at Sussex Inlet for a week each July. Beach fishing is also available at Berrara and Cudmirrah beaches. Sussex Inlet has a local cinema and two licensed clubs.
