Listed Below are the Strathgordon - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.
Strathgordon is an old dam construction village and tourist centre close to the Gordon Power Station, located about 365 m above sea level and 160 km from Hobart, which is the gateway to the vast South West National Park. Today Strathgordon is a tiny settlement which has been developed by Hydro Tasmania as a great place for trout fishing, picnics, barbecues, camping and bushwalking. There is plenty of bushwalking available in the area and to the south lies the vast wilderness of the South West National Park. You can get information about walking tracks and scenic lookouts from the Visitor Reception and Information Centre on the decking above the Gordon Dam. The Gordon River road is approximately 85km long and can be accessed just west of Maydena. There are several lookouts and two picnic areas along the road and there is a short forest walk, which runs off from Frodsham Pass. You can take the sealed road 150 km west from Mt Field National Park to reach the hydro storages of Lakes Gordon and Pedder, both of which are excellent wild trout fisheries and have good boat launching facilities. Strathgordon provides refreshments, accommodation, local information and petrol for visitors.
