Tarraleah is an old construction village that has been transformed into a delightful tourist centre in the Central Highlands Region of Tasmania. It is located about115 km northwest of Hobart on the A10 Highway between Lake St Clair and Hamilton. Interestingly it is 20 km from the physical centre of Tasmania, close to the World Heritage Areas of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Tarraleah was once home to hydro electric workers and the wooden homes has been restored and become an elegant wilderness resort. Tarraleah abounds in native wildlife including: kangaroos and wallabies, platypus and quolls, wombats, Tasmanian devils and echidnas. The old Art Deco style central Lodge, an built in the 1930s, has been restored into a luxurious small luxury hotel with comfortable nine bedroom and remains a showcase of Tasmanian art and craft.
