The area has a magnificent coastline and a large range of attractions and activities including swimming, diving, bushwalking, and enjoying picnics or camping in the magnificent forest areas. It also is the gateway to the famous South Coast Track, which is one of Tasmania`s best bushwalks that takes about a week. The track begin or ends at Cockle Creek and passes along the wild and rugged southern coastline of Tasmania. It crosses two set of mountain ranges and passes through open plains and coastal areas, including the beaches. The track ends at Melalueca an isolated spot within the South West National Park, which an only be accessed by boat or light aircraft chartered from Hobart. The main industries at Dover and the surrounding towns are abalone, salmon farms and crayfishing, timber products and apple orchards. Dover lies at the head of Esperance Bay and overlooks the islands of Hope, Faith and Charity. Local attrctions include the Hastings Forest and Cockle Creek tour, Ida Bay Scenic Railway and the Hastings Cave State Reserve, with its natural thermal pool. There is a wide range of places to stay in this region.
