Theodore is the service centre for important irrigation and agricultural industries, and coal mining in the Bowen Basin to the north. Popular attractions include the community managed Hotel-Motel, Rose`s Garden, the Dawson River weir, Junction Park and Glenmoral Gorge. Just south of the hotel is the Dawson Folk Museum which has a fascinating collection of local historic items and photographs. About 30 km on the Leichhardt Highway, south of Theodore, is Isla Gorge National Park which has spectacular cliffs, wonderful Aboriginal hand paintings and plunging sandstone gorges. There is a campsite near the entrance and many bushwalks through the gorge area.
