It is located about 500 km south of Sydney, and 33 km from Jindabyne, via the Alpine Way. It is built in the valley of the Thredbo River, formerly known as the Crackenback River, at the foot of the Ramshead Range. Thredbo offers a large range of activities in both summer and winter and excellent accommodation in its European-style lodges. It is an outstanding ski resort with more than 17 ski-lifts and 70 km of ski runs. There is one chairlift, open all year round, takes visitors almost 600 m into the mountains. From the top, it is a relatively easy 6 km walk to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko.
