Triabunna is a port and holiday centre on the East Coast of Tasmania near Maria Island. It is located about 88 km north east of Hobart. Triabunna was initially a garrison town for the penal colony on Maria island. Today its main industries are commercial fishing (it is renowned for its scallops and abalone) and the major woodchip mill at Point Home. Triabunna is the administrative centre of the East Coast Region from Bicheno to Buckland, and includes the Freycinet coastline. Triabunna has wonderful beaches, attractions and facilities for a wide range of water based activities, including: fishing, sailing, swimming, kayaking, surfing, boating, canoeing, windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and golf. You can catch the ferry from Triabunna to Maria Island, or enjoy bushwalking through the local forest and National Parks and take a winery tour. Local trails include the Pelican Walk, which begins near the marina, Old Convict Road and walks in the Wielangta Forest.
