Tuncurry with its twin city or Forster is located about 300 km north of Sydney at the entrance to Wallis Lake. The twin cities are joined by a long concrete bridge and together provide a fabulous holiday destination and weekend getaway with fantastic entertainment and tourist facilities. Tuncurry provides for every conceivable recreational pursuit especially water sports. It has is excellent fishing, surfing, sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming areas and a friendly and relaxed holiday atmosphere. One of the best and most popular beaches is 'The' Bar at the southern end of Nine Mile Beach, which has grassed picnic areas and BBQ facilities, good surf and lots of rock pools to explore. Tuncurry is famous for its fishing, especially offshore and there are many charter boats available and excellent boat ramps. Shoreline fishing at the beach, the breakwater, lake or rocks are also very popular, targeting Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Mullet, Trevally, and Luderick. Prawns can also be caught at night in the lake using nets and lamps, during the season. Deep sea fishing charters and whale watching cruises also operate locally and you can take a leisurely cruise on a ferry around Wallis Lake.
