- Where to Go, What to See and Do

Listed Below are the Ubirr - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.
The spectacular Aboriginal art site of Ubirr is located in the East Alligator region of Kakadu National Park, and is famous for its rock art. Ubirr is located about 40 km from Jabiru along a sealed road. Take the short stroll from the car park past the main art sites to the foot of Ubirr Rock. Ubirr lies on the edge of the Nadab floodplain and has a group of rock outcrops and several natural shelters decorated with a collection of Aboriginal rock paintings, some of which are many thousands of years old. Among the animals painted in the main gallery are barramundi, long-necked turtles, catfish, mullet, goannas, pig-nosed turtles, rock ringtail possums, and wallabies. Most of the X-ray art in the main gallery is from the freshwater period, so it is less than 1500 years old. Close to the main gallery is a painting of a thylacine (Tasmanian tiger), which probably became extinct on the mainland about 2000 to 3000 years ago and from Tasmania in the 1900s. From the top of Ubirr rock there is a panoramic view of the floodplains and escarpments that is especially beautiful at sunset.
