Ulverstone is a rural service town and tourist centre in the North Central Region of Tasmania, located at the mouth of the Leven River about 20 km west of Devonport, 50 km east of Burnie and 126 km north west of Launceston. There are longs stretches of wonderful sheltered beaches with safe swimming, canoeing and kayaking. On many of these beaches you can watch penguins walking u the beach returning to their burrows at dusk. Ulverstone has excellent beach, river, estuary and offshore boat fishing. A short drive inland from Ulverstone are the fascinating limestone caves of Gunns Plains with wonderful displays and glow worms. Ulverstone has many arts, craft and antique stores and food outlets. Ulverstone has a wide range of accommodation close to the beachfront and waterfront. Dairy and Beef cattle are the major rural industries.
