The Macedon Ranges are located about 60 km north of Melbourne with Daylesford as the largest centre in the region. This area has historically been a holiday destination for wealthy Melburnians, who used it to escape from the hot summer temperatures as is evidenced by the array of magnificent mansions and gardens located in the townships of Macedon and other towns in the Mount Macedon. There are many wineries in the area and some magnificent restaurants. The Macedon Regional Park offers visitors fantastic views, spectacular bushwalking trails and a diversity of flora and fauna. The `Spa Centre of Australia` consists of the twin towns of Hepburn Springs and Daylesford. This is a popular destination for weekend getaways and short breaks and is located about 110 km north-west of Melbourne. Daylesford is a picturesque rural town and the local district has an outstanding array of attractions and recreational activities including mountains, lakes, forests, relics from the goldmining era and also has Australia`s largest concentration of natural mineral springs, with more than 65 mineral springs in the Daylesford and Hepburn Springs region.
