- Where to Go, What to See and Do
Wallaga Lake is one of the largest lakes on the south Coast of New South Wales with excellent boating and fishing, outstanding scenery and great facilities for water-based recreation. The entrance to Wallaga Lake is at Murunna Point and the lake receives a small input of freshwater from Dignams and Narira Creeks. The lake is generally around 3 and 6 m deep, with deeper water up to 7 m deep in the centre o the lake, around Merriman Island. The tidal limit occurs about 4 km up Dignams Creek. There are many Aboriginal middens and piles of shells along the lake shores that are evidence of Aboriginal habitation of the area for thousands of years. The Umbarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre has many art works and artefacts of the local Aboriginal Yuin people on display. There is also a range of information and tours available. Wallaga Lake fishing is renowned for its fishing and boating. You can hire boats from Beauty Point or Regatta Point, and there are many excellent boat ramps for launching your own boat.
