Wauchope is service and tourist town on the Stuart Highway, close to the spectacular Devils Marbles. It is located in the Tennant Creek Region of the Northern Territory, about 115 km south of Tennant Creek, 400 km from Alice Springs and 1100 km south of Darwin, and is ideally situated to the west of the scenic Murchison and Davenport Ranges. The town was initially established to service local mining communities and the Barkly Tablelands cattle industry. Local attractions include the Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve, which lies on either side of the Stuart Highway some 10 km north of Wauchope contains a marvellous array of round granite rocks, shaped by weathering. The boulders are best seen at sunset. The reserve also has a unique collection of wildlife and birds including: Zebra finches, Fairy Martin and the Pygmy Spiny-tailed Goanna.
