Most of the area surrounding Weipa is Aboriginal Reserve with restricted access, but you can get permits from the local Aboriginal Community Councils. The fishing, boating and camping in the area surrounding Weipa is magnificent, and the waters at the mouth of the nearby Pennefather River is very popular with white sandy beaches and very good fishing. You can hire boats locally or join a charter or tour boat to fish in these waters that teem with fish including the iconic Barramundi. Many of the boat charter and other tour operators include accommodation in their packages and so it is easy to book your ideal adventure holiday. You can plan your own camping trip with your own gear and boat or otherwise rent a houseboat, or one of the houses and villas in Weipa.
