West MacDonnell Ranges - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions
- Where to Go, What to See and Do
This vast and spectacular Western section of the MacDonnell Ranges, located to the west of Alice Springs, is a wonderful example of an ancient landscape sculptured by weathering over a long period of time. The incised scenic gorges are important refuges for a diverse range of plants and animals, many of which are found in this area. There are many ways for visitors to appreciate and explore the scenic beauty and history of the area, and the significance of the stories of Western Arrernte Aboriginal culture about the area. A world class bicycle path leads out from Alice Springs through the bush to this Park. The West MacDonnell National Park can be accessed from Alice Springs via Larapinta Drive and Namatjira Drive. There are numerous sites for camping, barbecueing, picnicking, swimming, cycling and bushwalking. Commercial facilities are available at Glen Helen Resort, including caravan sites and motel accommodation. The facilities available within this Park include a Ranger station, habitat displays, a visitor centre, fuel, meals, information, a medical clinic, drinks and commercial accommodation and caravan sites.
