It began in 1885 as a port and service centre for the gold rush at Halls Creek, and it is now a major port and service centre for the east Kimberley. The stunning backdrop to the town is The Bastion, with the Five Rivers Lookout at the summit, which is part of the Bastion Ranges which overlook the 3 main sections of the town: Port Wyndham, Wyndham Six Mile and Wyndham Three Mile. The thriving Port is used for live cattle export, sugar and molasses for local cattle farms, nitrate for Argyle Diamond Mine, fuel and other goods for the East Kimberley. Wyndham is a fascinating historic town, with good facilities and a wide range of activities, especially for those interested in four wheel driving, camping and bush walking. Some of the local attractions are Parry Creek Wildlife Reserve, El Questro Station, Diggers Rest Station Overland, or you can explore the Cambridge Gulf by boat. For tourists, there are two hotels and a caravan park and outdoor swimming and recreational centre for leisure and Wyndham is served by Wyndham Airport. Other attractions are Western Australia`s first Crocodile Park, where you can see and feed crocodiles, alligators and komodo dragons at the Zoological Gardens and Crocodile Park. There is excellent fishing, exciting wildlife, boating, horse riding and walking trails, magnificent scenery, peaceful billabongs and many historical buildings in the area. Visit the Grotto, a waterhole oasis surrounded by Boab trees and stair-like amphitheatre of red rock surrounding a natural pool.
