Wynyard is an attractive rural service centre and tourist town in the North West Region of Tasmania in a fascinating coastal area, which includes the towns of Sisters Beach, Somerset, and Boat Harbour. The region is famous for the spectacular tulip display at Table Cape, a large flat top headland, each October. The area has magnificent beaches, good surfing, safe swimming, fantastic fishing and excellent sailing and boating. In Wynyard, there is a delightful walking track along the banks of the Inglis River. Further south there are additional bushwalking trails in the Hellyer Gorge and at the base of Mount Bischoff at Waratah. Wynyard has a very popular yacht club and all-weather boat ramps and other facilities for a variety of water sports. Wyndham has a friendly community and great facilities and is an excellent base to stay and exploring some of the many attractions, activities and exciting heritage of the North West Coast. There is a wide range of places to stay on the beach and waterfront at Wynyard. Local attractions include: # Fossil Bluff - located just west of Wynyard, offers excellent views and is the location where fossils of giant marsupials have been found. There is a small beach and the rocks on the headlands have imbedded fossilised shells. # Table Cape Lookout has excellent views. It was formed from a volcanic plug and rises as a dramatic flat-topped headland 190 m above the ocean. # Fishing - The Inglis and Flowerdale rivers have excellent trout fishing and there is excellent ocean fishing from the shore or boats.
