Yorketown is a major service centre and hub for tourist on the southern tip of the Yorke Peninsula located about 230 km west of Adelaide. Yorketown is surrounded by 200 salt lakes and the local salt industry peaked during the First World War but ceased in the 1950s when the salt refinery closed in Edithburgh. Yorketown has a fascinating history showcased by its many heritage buildings. The local rural industries focus on barley, wheat and sheep. Yorketown is a grate base to stay and enjoy the many attractions in the area including the rugged coastal scenery around Innes National Park at the tip of the peninsula. Daly Head located 50km to the west is a famous surfing beach. Corny Point is located 55 km to the north-west, and is a popular camping and fishing spot.
